On the bricks, get set, go! - LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® at innos
Every time I prepare the large boxes with hundreds of different LEGO® bricks for the next workshop, I feel a tingling sense of anticipation. It's not the memory of childhood days when I played with LEGO®, but rather the enthusiasm for all the exciting challenges that we have already solved with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® in workshops.
The method may sound playful at first glance, but LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a real power tool when it comes to making complex topics understandable. For those who don't know it yet: LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® uses the small colorful bricks as a means to visually represent ideas, strategies and solutions. It helps teams to dive deep into topics in a playful way and develop solutions together. Whether it's team building, vision development, strategy planning or improving communication - LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® creates a shared understanding of challenges and solutions.
We at innos have been trained LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitators for some time now and use the methodology both internally and externally. From my own experience I can say: it always works! Internally, all our teams have built their vision for the coming year together - literally. Each team has created a model out of LEGO® bricks that shows how they want to work together and what goals they want to achieve together. The beauty of this is that everyone gets a chance to have their say and the models create neutral communication and discussions at eye level. It is fascinating to see how ideas and strategies become tangible from individual bricks.
We also often use the method in external workshops for clients to develop a common business vision or to concretize strategies. But LEGO® also proves invaluable when it comes to communication challenges or visualizing complex topics. What makes the method so special is its ability to bring people together at eye level. All workshop participants have the same opportunity to express their thoughts - in a neutral, creative environment. LEGO® makes it possible to transform abstract ideas into concrete, tangible models.
At the end of every workshop, I am always amazed at the impressive results. The skeptics who stand in front of the LEGO® bricks at the beginning are often the ones who are most amazed at the end. Because with a few colorful bricks, we manage to open up the space for creativity and develop solutions that may have previously seemed unimaginable.
