Digital Production Networks

Digitalization, particularly digital networking, is increasingly becoming the basis for a company's economic success. Digital models, twins, and planning systems come into play to optimize the production processes of one company and those of several companies in a value chain.

Our Vision

The German-Dutch ZIM network "Digital Production Networks" aims to contribute to digital networking in production and provide small and medium-sized companies with the tools they will need to place products with innovative materials on the market in the European Union in the future. These include, for example, product passports containing information on the materials used, the CO2 footprint, recyclability, the proportion of recycled materials, and their durability.

In addition to meeting EU regulatory requirements, the network's overarching goal is to optimize supply chains economically and ecologically to reduce costs and make production processes more resilient. This requires, among other things, secure communication across value chains in which all participants in a production network can retain their data sovereignty.

The digitalization of production processes also enables progress in the circular economy: the seamless recording and storage of information along the value chain, starting with the extraction of raw materials through the production and usage phases to disposal or recycling, not only enables precise traceability but also acts as a comprehensive knowledge database over the entire life cycle of the product.
