Workshop „Business Model Canvas“ for clusters and networks

Preperation and implementation for a continuing education of a business model development and sustainable strategic planning for clusters and networks.

The Workshop was planned as a continuing education for clusters and networks and attended to the key themes value proposition and customer segments.

The aim of the workshop was to enable managing directors of the networks and Thuringian innovation centers to comprehensively consider and analyze their own business model. From this, deductions and measures should be taken that reduce costs, increase sales, focus the added value of the services on your own customers and members, be able to win new customers and members, create your own brand and ultimately sharpen your own profile to develop a sustainable strategy in the medium to long term.

Last but not least, this should also improve the visibility and networking of the networks and cluster initiatives.


The preparation and implementation of the workshop was organized in three work packages:

1. Preparation: Coordination with the client, creation of an agenda, creation of presentations and preparation of participant documents as well as preparation of the content.

2. Implementation: Further training measure as a digital workshop in two consecutive half-day events as well as the content of the workshop contents, which are listed in detail below.

3. Follow-up: by processing the event results and distributing them.

The workshop content in detail:

  • Brief introduction: Systematic strategy planning in the context of network and cluster life cycles
  • Superordinate explanation of the Business Model Canvas as a tool for business model development including the discussion of examples
  • Explanation of the Value Proposition Canvas as part of the BMC (Value Map, Customer Profile) and derivation of strategies
  • Interactive creation of value maps and customer profiles by the participants with the help of creative techniques such as persona design or the empathy map and their presentation and discussion of the results
  • Embedding of BMC, value map and customer profiles in the strategy process for clusters and networks
  • Overview of the strategy pyramid model as a tool that visualizes and specifies the essential components of an organizational strategy with a view to vision, mission, values, goals and tasks
