Network "Digital Shadows“

Network in the target field "Digital shadow and digital twins in dynamic production networks".

Objective of the network and strategic orientation

The "digital shadow" refers to all operating, status or process data collected during the use of a product or process.

The intelligent link with the "digital master," the digital ur model that contains all the information from development and production, results in the "digital twin" or "digital twin".

Technological objective

“The intellectual heart of CPS (Cyber-Physical Systems) is in studying the joint dynamics of physical processes, software, and networks.”

The technological basis for the network was laid, among other things, in the ZIM network InPro (Intelligent Production Technologies), in which digital twins in particular were developed in the sense of a digital master for the optimization of production processes. Building on the knowledge gained in the target field of Industry 4.0, the "Digital Shadows" network will (further) develop digital twins to integrate digital shadows and thus take into account the life cycle of the product, the production machine and the process.

Due to the large amounts of data generated in production processes, machine learning (ML) principles are to be used for automated evaluation. With the help of semantic technologies, the above-mentioned link between the digital master and the digital shadow is to be realized. It is essential to note that the adaptation of the digital twin during its life cycle is not to be performed by humans, but by the system itself.
